AION 2 PvP: Faction War, Capped Battlefields, Real Complaints
Two levels of PvP: open-world Abyss and faction war, plus rule-bound modes. NC confirmed Chaotic Upper Reshanta and Battlefield: Siege.

PvP runs on two levels.
One is open-world faction war: the Abyss, spacetime rifts and open-world encounters.
The other is rule-bound modes. NC has confirmed Chaotic Upper Reshanta (item level and combat power capped, no bosses or artifacts), Battlefield: Siege (capture three zones, every team starts equal), Spacetime Rift: Domination and Outlands.
Long-term players on the Asia service consistently complain that open-world PvP is decided by gear gap. NC’s answer to that is exactly these capped and equalised modes.
The modes
| Mode | Rules | Capped? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abyss / faction war | Open world, PvE and PvP in the same zone | No | Steam store page official copy |
| Spacetime rifts | Cross to the enemy faction’s side | No | NC press release |
| Chaotic Upper Reshanta | Item level and combat power capped; no bosses or artifacts | Yes | NC press release, July 6, 2026 |
| Battlefield: Siege | Capture three zones for points; all teams start equal | Yes (equal conditions) | NC press release, July 6, 2026 |
| Spacetime Rift: Domination | Added in Chapter 1 | Not stated | NC press release, June 17, 2026 |
| Outlands | Added in Chapter 1 | Not stated | NC press release, June 17, 2026 |
| 1v1 arena, 10v10 battlegrounds, large-scale siege | Listed by creators | Not stated | Creator reports |
Steam’s store page lists both PvP and Online PvP as official categories. So PvP is part of the game’s definition, not an add-on.
Two factions, two maps
There are two playable factions: Elyos (light) and Asmodians (dark). The official global teaser site introduces them under the heading “Tale of Two Worlds”.
Faction is not just lore. It decides which side of the map you start on.
NC’s press release notes that players cross spacetime rifts to complete sealed dungeons and strongholds on the enemy side. In other words, PvE progression actively pushes you into PvP territory.
Add the official definition of the Abyss - it ensures PvE and faction war are “never far apart” - and the intent is clear: avoiding PvP entirely is hard.
Creators also flag a concrete mechanic: approaching enemy guard NPCs in the open world flags you for attack automatically. So “I am just going over there to farm” is itself what turns you into a target.
Two hard rules NC published about balance
Developer interviews contain two mechanics that matter more than the mode list.
One: the Abyss has a weekly time cap. The Abyss is a flight-enabled RvR zone, but NC says you can spend at most seven hours a week in it. So PvP is not something you sit inside indefinitely. Your time budget is the same as your opponent’s.
Two: faction populations get periodically re-matched. Population imbalance between Elyos and Asmodian caused real problems in the original AION. The fix here: when necessary, NC can split the character data of both factions within a server entirely, then periodically re-match across all servers so the two sides end up roughly equal. Each re-match also resets PvP/RvR balance and in-faction rankings. NC describes it as close to a season system. The first re-match is planned two months after service begins, with later timing decided by conditions in-game.
Both come from developer explanations about the Korea and Taiwan service. NC has not separately confirmed whether global inherits them.
One more official line is worth remembering. The development PD stated plainly that AION 2 does not force PvP - PvE and solo play offer plenty on their own. Players who want PvP have the open world and battlegrounds; players who do not are not blocked by content.
What Asia players complain about, and what NC changed
Keep two things separate here: what NC did, and how players felt.
What NC did: shipped the two capped modes above. Chaotic Upper Reshanta caps item level and combat power; Battlefield: Siege starts every team on equal footing. Both designs point directly at reducing the effect of gear gap.
What players said: on Reddit’s r/Aion2, long-term player write-ups describe weak PvP balance, crowd control that barely matters, arena matchmaking with no real skill matching, and outcomes driven by gear score. Others describe the Taiwan launch being hit by server attacks, causing lag and disconnects. The same posters also note NC keeps shipping balance patches and expect the global build to be closer to finished.
Note that these are voluntary, non-representative samples, and all of them come from the Korea and Taiwan service. They show what problems existed. They do not prove the global build repeats them.
Why no verdict yet
Two reasons.
- The global build is a separately constructed service. NC has published no parity list, so Asia balance is not a forecast for global.
- Whether the capped modes are in the global launch is also unpublished. Chaotic Upper Reshanta and Battlefield: Siege are Chapter 1 content, and NC has not said whether global launches on the same version.
So this page states “these modes officially exist” and “players reported these problems”. It does not state “global PvP is great” or “global PvP is broken”.
Getting into PvP: four steps
- Level toward the Abyss unlock first. Creators confirmed that at the level-37 test cap the Abyss was closed, and put its unlock at level 45. That number is from the Asia service; global has not published one.
- Start with the capped modes. Capped zones and equal-condition battlefields let you practise before your gear is finished.
- Check the flagging mechanic before entering enemy territory. Approaching enemy guard NPCs flags you, and after that you can be attacked at any time.
- Group up, and agree loot rules up front. Creators specifically warn that running field bosses with a random group does not mean the group will honour splits. Settling the rule beforehand is cheaper than arguing later. One related note: using the Market requires an active membership, so free accounts handle drops differently - see membership and monetization.
PvE content and entry budgets are on dungeons and PvE. Why class PvP rankings cannot be published yet is on the class list.
Community footage: watching beats reading a ranking
To get a feel for the pacing, two creator highlight reels are useful. They show the Korea and Taiwan service and do not represent global balance.
- Aion 2 PvP Arenas and Abyss Highlights (J0EI TV): arena and Abyss footage. Against high-sustain or shielded opponents, silence and seal still function as the way to break through.
- AION 2 Gladiator PvP Is INSANE! | Abyss PvP Highlights (Sen): visual reference for Gladiator in small-scale Abyss fights. No transcript could be retrieved for this video, so no claim on this page comes from it - it is footage only.
